We are at the beach this week, and for the first time in more than 25 years I’m not either compulsively checking my phone or otherwise worrying about what fires need to be put out at the office or with a client. The reason I’m not doing any of this is because I just retired from the corporate world and Formos (FDH) Consulting, where I was a partner, and am looking to pursue opportunities in ministry.
This is something we’ve been thinking about for quite a while, and Olivia and I finally decided it was time for a new season of life where I can pursue opportunities in the ministry for God’s Kingdom. At this point I’m not sure what this will look like, but my passion is in preaching and teaching the Word of God.
This was not always the case. When I was in college at Lipscomb back in the 90s, I had absolutely no aspirations to be a preacher in any capacity. This began to change when an Elder at Hillsboro Church of Christ asked me to preach on a Sunday evening when I was a senior. After this sermon, the minister, Dr. Marlin Connelly, took me under his wing and for the next 20+ years was my mentor and friend.
Largely because of his influence, I have been able to preach at around 20 different churches over the years in Middle Tennessee for Gospel Meetings, interim and fill-in preaching, vacation bible school, and summer series, all while working full-time in the IT industry. Now I’m ready to make preaching, teaching, and ministry a larger part of my life and am looking at what opportunities and needs are out there. My feeling is that part time / interim work and gospel meetings would be the best fit for me and my family but I’m also praying that God will open doors and give me the courage to walk through them.
So far I’ve committed to co-leading a trip to Israel next year and am meeting with a church in August that is currently going through a transition. I’m also in the process of reaching out to preachers, elders, and others that are tied into the needs of churches in Middle Tennessee to seek advice and see if they know of any opportunities.
For those wanting to keep track of where this journey takes me, I’ll be maintaining my preaching schedule at the following link:

It is pretty thin right now, but I’m confident that God will lead me to many more opportunities in the future.
If anyone reading this knows of any opportunities or has suggestions about people I should speak with, please let me know. Above all, I would appreciate your prayers as we begin this new season of our lives.
Timothy
Have you spoken to the Tusculum elders. They are searching prayers and blessings
